The fitness is good but the recovery time grows longer with each hard workout. I'm down to 3 maintenance workouts a week with lots of rest and a couple recovery rides. Jen and I are going to Ohio for the Mohican 12/24 hr race in 2 weeks and then it's 3 weeks until Burning at the Bluff. We went down to Council Bluffs with MJ and Liz and the Jeremiah Bradshaw family clan. Jen and I rode a night lap on Saturday and we both rode 4 laps on Sunday. The first 3 I did with Jeremy which was good because it forced me to ride to a different pace than I'm used to. We ran into Matt Hayes who rode with us for a bit- he is fast and looking fit. My last lap alone was a good sign. I was tired but I still able to turn a 1:13 after 3 1:15 avg laps. As crazy as this sounds I think my laps could have been faster and more consistent but I was riding with someone else who has a totally different riding style than me and we were stopping at the beach every lap so Jeremy could check on the fandamily. I don't like to stop at all, my legs are good once they get going but take a while to warm up again. I'm shooting for a 1:15 pace at the Burning so being able to nail the pace each lap is good.
The VS. channel has been busting out Rocky all week. Keep a good rotation of Rocky I, II, IV and mix in a little Chariots of Fire and 24 Solo in there and you will take the Eye of the Tiger to the next level. I'm eating raw meat and eggs right now before I go do a double century in the rain... I've gotta work on the greasy fast Italian speed.
